In my state of so-called MumDumb I had completely missed getting tickets to see Blue Rodeo in Banff during the pre-sale. Sacrilege, I know. So my BR cohort walked over to the Jube one day and picked up tickets for the January 6th show. Because she'd done the groundwork and it had happened before the busy holiday season (the REALLY busy holiday season) it had slipped my mind until this week that I was in fact going to the concert. We started with dinner at the Lido (of course) and moved on to the concert. As usual, I made the mistake of stopping by the merchandise table. That lead to the adding of a Cuddy hockey jersey to my wardrobe. I really wanted the Keelor one too but that will have to wait. Truth be told, I don't really need either but one jersey is black and the other is white as though BR has both home and away colours. That's the kind of marketing I'm easy prey for.

My torchbearer uniform arrived today and I thankfully estimated my size at this point correctly. I had to tell the torch committee my size sometime in the summer when I was about nine months pregnant so I was a bit worried but I made the right choice. I only plan to wear it for my run and then save it. Maybe in 22 years the Winter Olympics will return to Canada and I can be like the '88 torchbearers who have turned out in their tracksuits. - read more (192 words)

Gad, even gingerbread man have to have those stupid douche-baggy goatees these days. And I am NOT comfortable with gingerbread men having cheesy 1970s porn moustaches, either.

I knew that the pregnancy weight would probably take as long to get off as it did to put on but that doesn't make me feel any better about the situation. I'm two months post-pardum now and I've lost just over 30 lbs. That should make me happy but instead all I can think about is what I weighed this time last year and how thrilled I was with that.At any rate, not to be daunted by the task ahead of me, two weeks ago I abandoned my child (read: dropped him off in Red Deer with his doting grandparents) and headed for the hills.

I was prepared for these weeks to be much worse than they have been. Both Evil Scientist and I have managed to get out with and without baby as well as together as a family. We've been to curling, to the observatory, out to dinner, over to the Lido and even Malzac. We survived the trip to Red Deer for Thanksgiving (we had so much stuff that there was no room for Simon's bassinet so I made a bed for him in Evil Scientist's suitcase. Poor little welfare baby!).

Sometime in June I found out that I had been chosen as one of the CPR Olympic Torch Bearers. I was excited, not just because running in the Torch Relay is cool but because it's rare that I win anything. I'm glad that I submitted my name instead of taking my usual “what's the point” attitude. It just goes to prove that you don't know until you try. Out of several thousand employees only about 1500 applied.I didn't blog about it right away because once chosen for any Olympic activity a person has to be cleared by VANOC through a process of applications, etc. As it happened, final confirmation of my position was emailed on September 17th. Pretty much a good day all around, I'd say.
