Sporty Spice In case you're wondering, I did manage to get most of my workouts in this week but it was in such a disorganized way that there was no point in logging it. Some days I crammed in 30 minutes of running and some days I went all out and spent several hours on my bike. Several factors in my life contributed to this lack of exercise organisation.

I'm working on a final paper which requires a couple of hours of quiet time each night. Junior likes to give me a hand by trying to eat my notebook and playing smashy-smashy on my keyboard but really, brilliant as he is, I don't think he's up to graduate level work yet (even in a business degree). So my evenings get used up by trying to write as much as possible from my notes and chicken scratches collected during the day when the baby is otherwise distracted or napping. Also adding to my lack of schedule this week was a sick baby. It was just a cold and it didn't slow him down too much but it is hard to see someone so small struggle with a stuffy nose and the all-around crappy feeling we all get when under the weather. Add to that the constant teething. He was pretty good about it all but he was a bit fussy if either of us left the house so I hesitated to leave him for long.

Of course, by the end of the week, Junior was kind enough to share his cold with me. I seem to have no resistance to such things since the spring hit and I've been miserable for the last four days. I'm at the smokers cough faze so I'm either getting much worse or much better. Insomnia has once again kicked in so right now I'm one big, exhausted mess that still has a paper to finish. Thankfully, I'm close to finishing so at least that's not stressing me out.

When I'm better, sometime this week, it will be time to catch up on my workouts again but I'm not going to worry too much about sticking to the plan exactly. As long as I'm getting in some swimming, cycling and running each week, it will just have to do for now. Had I not postponed my first tri, I would have participated this weekend. In looking at the results, I would have finished no problem and may have even been middle of the pack.

In five weeks, I return to work and I'm looking forward to having a more structured life again. I intend to ride my bike to work everyday. A couple of days a week, I'll stop off at the pool on the way home and when I get up from bed in the afternoon, I'll get my running in (I'd like to aim for three or four times a week). By next spring I hope to be fit enough to sign up for several events throughout the spring-summer months.

Sometimes, life just happens, gangs up on you so to speak... Learn how to accept these moments in life, don't obsess over them and move on. Take it from someone who has been there, done that, has a dozoen Tee Shirts.

One does learn a few things in life as one gets ... older but only if you try to learn.
