Sporty Spice Another thrilling night at the pool after driving through the snow that hasn't stopped falling all day:

Okay, I know I keep bringing up the snow but COME ON. I really am sick of this weather and I'm not alone in those feelings. Even Junior seems a bit blah these days because I think he's reacting to the general glumness of the family. Tonight I managed 350 m in 14 minutes and then did another 200 m to finish off the 20 minutes. I'm only a week and half into the training program and already I'm feeling stronger in the water. I watched another woman swimming lanes tonight (she didn't look like a sea manatee in her swimsuit) and I noticed how long her range of motion was when she stroked. When I applied that same range to my own swim I noticed a real difference in the power behind each stroke.

A swim coach would probably be a smarter choice right now but watching other people is more affordable. Once back at work I'm thinking of hiring a personal trainer to work my way through progressively longer triathlon lengths (I think I might be slipping into wanting to do an Ironman already). The only way I'm ever going to lose weight and keep it off is to be totally hard core all the time when it comes to exercise. Part of getting older is being able to suck up things that you just can't change and the sad reality is that I'll never be one of those people who can eat whatever I want without the consequence of getting fat. I look at pie and bloat. Besides, snow and The Ugliest Bathing Suit In The World aside I am enjoying having a daily routine of exercise.

I made a baked fish and potato casserole for dinner with a salad. I always have this brilliant plan that the leftovers will be lunch the next day but we never end up with leftovers. I've decided that I'm just going to have to make only two portions to avoid eating double what we ought to be. Both ES and I tend to want to eat more when the weather is dark so I need to be more diligent in my cooking.
