After the last few weeks of thinking that baby was never going to get here, I'm having a hard time believing that I'm not pregnant anymore. Don't get me wrong, it's great to be able to sleep any way I want and I enjoy having an empty bladder again.
However, with Simon out and into the world, I no longer have any excuses so in regards to fitness, weight-loss and health it's time to get back on track. I'll be posting my progress to keep me honest and motivated. I'm less annoyed with my body than what I thought I would be at this point. Given how well I've been feeling after giving birth, I have to give body some credit where credit is due. I thought that I would feel much worse than I do. I occasionally forget that I am recovering and become overtired, but that's my fault. I also have been battling some headaches, a leftover from the epidural.
That said, I'm horrified by the weight gain. I arrived home from the hospital last Friday and immediately set up my on-line weight-management program. This week was less about meeting calorie and quality goals and more about getting into the habit of writing everything I eat down again as well as measuring, weighing and scaling my food. The program will already squawk at me when I record a more than 15 pound weight loss this week.
Since Monday, I've managed to get out for some moderate walking every day. I've started with 30 minutes a day and over the next six weeks I'll be working my way up to 120 minutes a day. At the beginning of November I'll be able to start running again. With any luck, I'll have been able to knock down a few more pounds by then and the cool weather will make it a nice time to begin working on a running program.
I have an excellent goal to work towards that I will discuss in my next post.
