Chantelle Rants I usually don't get into new TV series. Shift work makes it difficult to keep up with one's TV schedule. When I get hooked on a show it's usually syndicated on one of the speciality channels and then I pick up a bunch of seasons on DVD. House MD was the exception. Because Hugh Laurie was the star, I made an effort to watch the pilot and have been hooked ever since. I'm starting to buy into the character's philosophy in life. Let's face it, life is a pretty miserable place. Why make it worse by getting close to people who will invariably just make it more miserable?

The point of all this is that if I ever have kids I'm going to try and convince them to build huge protective walls around themselves. I think people can excel a lot better if they avoid the messy personal relationships that suck up our energy and make us weak.

Okay, I realize this is pretty harsh but think about it. We have no choice but to teach our kids to be mistrusting. We already have to make sure they know to avoid strangers who could be potentially abduct them and then use them for kiddie porn or molest them etc. etc. Then, the minute they're in school we have to monitor web usage because it's another place where predators are lurking. We might as well take it to the next level and help them get through life with as little pain as possible.

Granted, I also think that we should start showing kindergarten students the entire series of OZ. I'm sure it would help keep kids away from crime. Yep, I'm going to be the worst mother ever.

Perhaps that is why our parents kept us more sheltered. They might have already known something about all of that crap. NT
