Duxford Girl

There are a number of accessories I don’t have. Rose wears white gloves with embroidered red flowers on them. Given the time of day she wears them, I assume they likely only extend a few inches beyond her wrist. At some point, I plan to find a pair of cloth gloves and do the embroidery myself.

Her hand bag looks as though it’s been crocheted. There’s probably a pattern out there for it so that’s on my round-to-it list also. It’s interesting to me that her bag is so homey compared to the rest of her elaborate outfit.



All the shoes for Rose’s costumes were supplied by the Peter Fox Company. They specialize in bridal shoes but their collection is often used in period movies because they carry some traditional styles. Unfortunately, the Riverdance style used for this costume is no longer available in my size (see www.peterfoxshoes.com). I’ve seen the shoes go up for bid on eBay a couple of times, with any luck they’ll appear in my size some day. The Louis XIII heel was very much favoured by the Edwardians. When last I was in London I looked at some vintage shoes in a few shops and markets but with my big feet I’d need to find the cast-offs of an Edwardian drag queen. Thankfully, it looks as though this particular heel is en vogue again for the season so perhaps I can find a reasonable facsimile of the shoe to go with the dress.
