Great Start to a New Year

In my state of so-called MumDumb I had completely missed getting tickets to see Blue Rodeo in Banff during the pre-sale. Sacrilege, I know. So my BR cohort walked over to the Jube one day and picked up tickets for the January 6th show. Because she'd done the groundwork and it had happened before the busy holiday season (the REALLY busy holiday season) it had slipped my mind until this week that I was in fact going to the concert.
We started with dinner at the Lido (of course) and moved on to the concert. As usual, I made the mistake of stopping by the merchandise table. That lead to the adding of a Cuddy hockey jersey to my wardrobe. I really wanted the Keelor one too but that will have to wait. Truth be told, I don't really need either but one jersey is black and the other is white as though BR has both home and away colours. That's the kind of marketing I'm easy prey for.

Every time I hear "(What are we gonna do) Come the Month of September" by Matt Mays and El Torpedo it makes me think of all the things I'm afraid that I'll lose about myself once I become a mother.
It's as though I fear that I will never fly another air craft or ski another slope. Considering that I work with many moms and dads who still do plenty of interesting stuff, I think my fears are largely unfounded.

As most of you have probably guessed, I've started Junior's musical training early. Being the pregnant one means that I get a leg up on what the boy listens to. For instance, I'm hoping to direct him away from crap like Vangelis in favour of as many Canadian bands as possible.

My heart just wasn't in it this year. Frankly, if it hadn't been for Evil Scientist's foot firmly placed on my behind I doubt very much if I would have gone at all.

As a friend put it, Maroon 5 is pure pop. The base beat in this song completely reminds me of the Police and there's a real 1960s kitchiness to the tune.

For the record (no pun intended), I can't believe that I didn't put Lost Together on this compilation.

More liner notes to a mixed CD of BR for a friend of mine who is just joining the cult. My notes about the songs are mostly what I take away when I listen.

I didn’t hold much hope in having a good Folk Fest year, this time around. First off, I bought my tickets fully expecting to get stuck on afternoon shifts and not being able to use them so it was an uncharacteristic stroke of scheduling luck when I ended up with two days off and two night shifts meaning that I was able to attend at least all evening main stage events.

Although there are certainly Holiday songs on this CD it also has some very contemporary music on it. I tried to capture the whole of November through February. Snow, dark, skating and all the rest.

A couple of years ago I put together a holiday mix CD that I was quite proud of. This year I put together another one and I've decided to basically post the liner notes of these two CDs right here on my blog. Who knew the mixed CD racket would go so high-tech?
