I didn't intentionally set out to make a fall mix for my (at the time) Sportage but this disk has now been my go-to fall music collection for when the leaves start to change. Partly, I suppose, because it's full of melancholy songs and partly because of the time that it was made, fall of 2008 (which was kind of a weird year, all around). Me and My Friend - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Julie_Doiron#External_links
2008 and was a particularly good year at the Calgary Folk Fest (in spite of the rain) and the above two songs were from the massive collection of music I purchased that year.

Never Quit Loving You - http://www.jillbarber.com
I loved this album by Jill Barber and this song was such a great throw-back to the dreamy, 1950s girl-ballad. Right around the time that I got this album, I also got two great dresses (on sale!) that fit the era that this song sounded like.

New Soul - http://www.yaelweb.com
This was used for the release of the first MacBook Air. I couldn't get it out of my head (exactly what the crafty marketing department at Apple had in mind) and I downloaded it. That was shortly before Evil Scientist and I headed out to Montreal so it will always remind me of that trip.

Florida – www.bluerodeo.com
I was planning on going to stay with a friend in Florida during the winter of 2009, so I guess I was anticipating that when I put this on the mix. As it would turn out, I didn't end up going because I was in the beginning months of pregnancy by the time early 2009 arrived.

You Can't Always Get What You Want - http://www.rollingstones.com
These were all from the soundtrack of House M.D. The Stones anthem was a running theme throughout the series. The other three songs were all from the final two episodes of the fourth season (the bus accident). It was probably the season that House should have ended with because after that I just couldn't get into the show anymore.

Asking for Flowers - http://kathleenedwards.com
“don't tell me you're too tired, 10 years I've been working nights” It was that line that drew me to this song. Unless you've worked shift work, it's hard to understand how crazy it makes a person. My steady nights and lack of light through the winter made me hard to get along with and the thing that annoyed me the most was hearing anyone with a steady 9-5 job declare how tired they were.

Bad Timing – www.bluerodeo.com
Because I love this song. This version is a live, acoustic one. It's slightly faster than the original but the stark arrangement really captures the desperation and sadness of the song.

In My Secret Life
Alexandra Leaving - http://www.leonardcohen.com/ca
Complicated lyrics for people who complicate their lives. Nobody understands the chronically fucked up the way Leonard Cohen does.

November Rain - http://www.gunsnroses.com
It's just a wicked, awesome song. During a late-night work discussion, one of my younger co-workers had never heard the song (?!?!?!?!?). I went home after that and downloaded it to my iPod.
