Summer is the time for folk and as usual, the quest for hot afternoons spent lounging in lush grass while listening to great performances did not disappoint. With their album (soon to be albumS) flying off the shelves, The Once are on their way to becoming Canadian folk legends. Geraldine Hollett, Phil Churchill and Andrew Dale form a trio of musicians that will break your heart with their harmonic traditional and contemporary works. Then, with equal ease, they will make you laugh with interesting stories about the passion and work that is making music. At www.theonce.ca, you can read their numerous excellent reviews and read more about the band. If they are near you, I highly recommend that you get tickets and go.

This song made me cry before I knew it every time I heard it this summer. Lyrics by Leonard Cohen (www.leonardcohen.com).

Coming Back to You

Maybe I'm still hurting
I can't turn the other cheek
But you know that I still love you
It's just that I can't speak
I looked for you in everyone
And they called me on that too
I lived alone but I was only
Coming back to you
Ah they're shutting down the factory now
Just when all the bills are due
And the fields they're under lock and key
Tho' the rain and the sun come through
And springtime starts but then it stops
In the name of something new
And all the senses rise against this
Coming back to you

And they're handing down my sentence now
And I know what I must do
Another mile of silence while I'm
Coming back to you

There are many in your life
And many still to be
Since you are a shining light
There's many that you'll see
But I have to deal with envy
When you choose the precious few
Who've left their pride on the other side of
Coming back to you

Even in your arms I know
I'll never get it right
Even when you bend to give me
Comfort in the night
I've got to have your word on this
Or none of it is true
And all I've said was just instead of
Coming back to you

the worst part

honestly you were less than a prince
i could say that again
what we had was little more than a glimpse
of the things that we wanted back then
no one likes to find the one who
they thought was lovely was a flash in the pan
survey the scene well the break was clean
hell that may be true and yet the losses were grand
and the worst part is oh the worst part is
oh the very worst part is i will always love you anyway
left myself sitting pretty and dumb
sitting right on the rails
the service train came and set us apart
although now i'm still getting your mail
you seem to have found a way to bring me down
to make me see just how the problem is mine
if you would like to be a person making me
feel worse well you can get behind me in line
and the worst part is oh the worst part is
oh the very worst part is i will always love you anyway
