I've been in a black mood of late. It is the usual gloom of the season. I don't get this warm, hurray-for-the-year-ahead feeling. It's more like a feeling of dark foreboding. Also, there's a seasonal aspect. Food has been plentiful and bad. Sun light and exercise have been rare. Today, I rectified that a bit. I wouldn't say the sun was involved in any huge way but at least it was daylight out. I haven't been out skiing since my trip in early December because of work and also because school is out and I have no desire to share the hill with 8 million people.

Last spring and summer I spent a lot of time in Fish Creek Park cycling and in-line skating. I didn't expect to see it over the winter, especially not with all this snow, but today I broke in my new snowshoes.

Having never been snow-shoeing before, I sort of had this image of being held aloft on the snow in a graceful manner. Not so much but the benefit of slogging through all that snow was really great exercise. I think I'll be feeling it in the morning.

The park certainly had the look of a winter wonderland. We fed chickadees and even braved the creek. Slightly west of the railway bridge, we discovered a little spruce tree that someone had decorated for Xmas. It was definitely a great way to burn calories and enjoy this winter weather. I had forgotten my camera back at base but Evil Scientist had his.

After, our small party picked up Chinese food and watched films. I have to say that it went a long way to making me feel better and I'm glad that I didn't take an OT shift this afternoon.

Today was the warm-up. Later this week we plan to brave K-Country. Even if the weather gets colder, I'm ready for it. With this cold snap, I finally bought myself a coveted Canada Goose parka (not that I needed it today).

The birds are pretty tame.

The pedestrian bridge.

We had a few breakthroughs on the ice but nothing serious.

My new shoes.

The little decorated tree.
