My project to rid my space of stuff is starting to remind me of a Rubik's Cube. Every time I solve one side, I realize that there are five more I've neglected.
The kitchen entered into the project recently when Evil Scientist purchased a Tassimo with Air Miles points. When it arrived, I cleared out a place of honour for it and used the cupboards above to store all of our coffee, tea, hot chocolate and related paraphernalia.

This required me to clean out the spice cupboards and I was able to toss a huge amount of things that I'm pretty sure we've moved about three times together.

Today, I started putting away dishes for Evil Scientist's trailer that will arrive sometime next year. I've long maintained that we really don't need 700 coffee mugs. This cleared up enough space that I was able to store the rice cooker and blender in a cupboard rather than have them sitting around collecting dust on the counter. The Tassimo sits on counter space that was previously occupied by the bread maker and the Foreman grill. Those two items had been placed on the dining room table and now have made their way to the counter. Two of the three knife blocks are now on counter space that has no outlets so it makes sense to have stuff there that doesn't need to be plugged in.

Do you see what a hideous process this is? I'm not even close to being done the kitchen and I know that the next purge I do will just open up another can of worms that I don't want to deal with.

The key is to not fill up that space with anything else. While setting up the beverage station, I realized that I have more than enough tea and coffee to get me through endless, miserable night shifts. So, no more coffee and tea is to be bought until I have used what is in the cupboard. I've also decided that there will be no more stops at Timmie's on the way to work. There really is no reason for me to spend $2 night on coffee when I have a coffee press in my locker. Black tea and coffee is black tea and coffee no matter where it comes from.

I'm hoping by the end of the year I will have this entire place organized to my liking. I dread the crawl space in the basement. Lord knows what horrors of clutter lurk there.
