So there I was the other night, quietly lining signals and minding my own RTC business when a co-worker threw herself into my visitor chair and said, “are doing facebook yet? It's awesome.” After some explanation, I found out about the latest web community. Granted, I wasn't sold on the concept. I have this blog, after all, surely the height of narcissism already. Two days later, another friend started talking about the concept and I still wasn't running to home to log on. I bowed to peer pressure last night when I heard about it for the third time in a week.

Basically, I've set it up so that people can come over to my blog if they're terribly interested in what I've been up to.

Where will it end though? It's weird that 50 years ago people spent a lot of time being paranoid about “Big Brother” yet now people spend a lot of time being entertained by “Big Brother”. I suppose if I was a conspiracy theorist I might suggest that this is exactly what “THEY” want us to do and it's all working so well (insert maniacal laughter here). I doubt it though. I think that as the world supposedly grows smaller our personal communities must grow bigger. Most people don't live where they grew up or where they went to school and who's got time for reunions?

In the end, I think this wraps up the good and bad of these internet communities in a nutshell: if you're 15 years old and claim that your favourite pastime is drinking tequila 'til 8 am, you better make damn sure that your aunt isn't using the same internet community and doesn't tell your grandmother.
