Well, after five of the weirdest months of my life have passed, I have qualified on the desk I've been training on at work. I told trains where they could and could not go tonight without any help from someone who actually knows what they're doing. I lucked out, actually, it was not a terribly busy night and nothing too unusual happened. I'm now known to train crews as my three-letter identifier, CND. Hopefully I did alright because now the crews will figure out clever acronyms to use with the above letters and I'm hoping it won't be too horrible.

I managed to use “correct” railway radio procedure and I never once uttered the dreaded NINER of aviation radio lingo. Switching between the two when I start flying again in the next couple of weeks should be entertaining. God forbid I read something back to ground or tower and use NOUGHT instead of ZERO.
